What is your full name and where are you from/based?

My name is Cyril Saulnier. When it’s about photography I’m C-reel. People have trouble pronouncing my name so it became C-reel. I’m from Paris and I’ve actually been based in Bali for 1 year.

"It's good to be self-taught. Everything is possible!"

Tell us a little about yourself.

Since the age of 17 I have always had a soul of entrepreneur. My fist society was a Moroccan Slippers brand called Babouche. It was during my many trips to Morocco with my best friend that I discovered my passion for photography.
4 years later I created my web design agency: Les Athlètes. Parallel to this I created with 2 partners several bike shops in Paris: Bicycle Store / Triathlon Store / La Crèmerie. Then I had the desire to have my own brand of bicycle and accessories made to measure in France. Birth of the project: Heritage-Paris.
It's good to be self-taught. Everything is possible!

When/How did you get in to Photography?

I started photography during my many trips to Morocco in the 2000’s.
The light was so beautiful and the places so photogenic that I wanted to immortalize those moments.

Can you describe your style of Photography?

My style is graphic, generous & colorful.

Who/What/Where are your influences?

It’s a mix of the spectacular work of Kristian Schuller & David Lachapelle, the sexy/glamour of David Bellemere & Richard Bernardin and some kings of compositions like Stephan Shore & Guy Bourdin.
The list can be much longer ;-)

You work with a range of big clients. Can you tell us about how you find new clients and promote your work?

I always worked with my network. Being based in Paris, there is a lot of agency and big clients.
Since I moved to Bali I work with an agent.

"Everything is a matter of trust."

Give us a brief description of how you work with clients to achieve their brief?

I tried quickly to put the customer at ease. To understand his need. What is the purpose of this shooting? Everything is a matter of trust.

What does a typical day of shooting look like for you?

I get up very early to look at the sky. I prepared my material the day before so no stress.
I take my bike and I often have a little smile at my lip when I go to my shooting place. This is often a surprise. I love surprises! I talk to the client, laughing with my team, did a location scouting, preparing my material. I'm ready to work. I always finish my shooting with a family picture. This is the tradition. Back in the office, I secure the files on my backup disks and I put my batteries on. Ready to start on a new project.

Can you tell us about your editing process?

I started working with DXO that I used for many years. One day an assistant made a demonstration of Lightroom. It was a revelation! The use of filters is simple and everything is customizable. First I adjust light, colors and upright. After I use some presets. My favourites are The Preset Factory’s Editorial Collection.

What's your best Philosophy on how to take great images?

Don’t think… Shoot ! (But intelligently).
Photography was my hobby before it became my profession. What could be more beautiful than living on passion?

Do you have a favourite images that you have taken?

Maybe the last image I took last night. (See Below)
